A healthy and delicious twist on traditional pizza using portobello mushrooms as a base, topped with your favorite ingredients.

Ingredients
  

Mushroom Base

  • 4 large large portobello mushrooms, cleaned and stems removed

Pizza Toppings

  • 1 cup pizza sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup various toppings (pepperoni, bell peppers, onions, olives, etc.) Get creative with your toppings!
  • 1 sprinkle Italian seasoning For added flavor
  • to taste olive oil for drizzling Brush lightly on mushrooms
  • to taste fresh basil for garnishing Optional but recommended

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (205°C).
  • Brush the portobello mushrooms with a light drizzle of olive oil.

Assembly

  • Place your mushrooms gill-side up on a baking sheet.
  • Spoon about a couple of tablespoons of pizza sauce into each mushroom cap.
  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
  • Add your favorite toppings, unleashing your inner pizza artist.
  • Sprinkle Italian seasoning over the top.

Baking

  • Slide the baking sheet into the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.
  • Check until the mushrooms are tender and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Optional: Switch on the broiler for the last 2-3 minutes for extra crispiness.

Garnishing

  • Sprinkle fresh basil on top after removing from the oven.

Notes

These can be prepped ahead of time without baking. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
