Dry Ingredients

  • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 and 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder For a rich chocolate flavor
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk Or another type of milk you have on hand
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water Essential for moist texture

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well mixed.
  • Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture. Stir until fully combined.
  • Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be very thin.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into prepared cake pans (two 9-inch pans or one 9x13 pan).
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cooling

  • Let the cake cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Serving

  • Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting or dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Ensure to use boiling water for the moist texture. If you're short on bakeware, you can bake in batches.
