Ingredients
  

For the dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Additional flour for dusting as needed.
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet) Ensure the yeast is active.
  • ¾ cup warm water About 110°F.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For added flavor and moisture.
  • 1 teaspoon sugar Feeds the yeast.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.

Preparation

  • In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
  • Once yeast mixture is bubbly, add it along with olive oil to flour mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough and turn it onto a floured surface. Stretch or roll it out to your desired thickness.
  • Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it heats.
  • Transfer dough to a baking sheet or heated stone, add toppings, and bake for about 12-15 minutes or until golden.

Notes

Don't rush the yeast! Add herbs or garlic powder for extra flavor. If you don't have a pizza stone, a baking sheet works just fine.
