Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk Can substitute with milk and vinegar

Fruity Addition

  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and buttermilk until well combined.
  • Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix just until combined.
  • Gently fold in the diced apples.
  • Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan and pour in the batter.

Baking

  • Bake for 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serving

  • Slice it up and enjoy plain or with butter.

Notes

For an extra tart kick, use Granny Smith apples. Substitute buttermilk by mixing 1 cup of milk with 1 tablespoon of vinegar and let sit for 5 minutes. Allow bread to cool completely before slicing to avoid gooey mess.
